Ryan Reynolds Submits Bizarre Short Film For Rob McElhenney’s Birthday

Ryan Reynolds surprises his co-Wrexham FC owner, buddy, and business partner Rob McElhenney with yet another one of his crazied shocks on his birthday. He sent a short video as an entry to the International Film Festival of Wales’ Short Films category, tagging McElhenney with the note: ‘Happy birthday.’ The video, which Reynolds clearly edited himself, is a flash-cut, montage style of jarringly placing McElhenney into scenarios out of Reynolds’ ‘movies. And, of course, the interwebs had thoughts.

First up isn’t exactly a sweet space: it had replies that weren’t actually about birthdays, but a lot of inside jokes and utter confusion over what just transpired. Of course, Rob Hanna from SocialWealth exclaimed: ‘C’mon and giddyup; we want more merch!!’ referring to their Wrexham merchandise empire. Or, user Zealot just called it a “gem,” which, yeah, it is something indeed. Jerry from angrybeardJV kept it short and sweet with “So good,” which, honestly, just sums up the vibe.

Not everyone, however, was here for the madness. Jesse Oresnik threw a little shade: ‘Mighty nice of you to allow him into so many of your scenes #magnanimous’-implying that McElhenney has been Photoshopped in to look like some grand extra in Reynolds’ features. Then Mirgon Kayser went totally off-topic, and she wrote Portuguese (translated into English): ‘I would really like to see Ryan return as Hal Jordan giving the torch passing. That Green Lantern movie was too poorly judged.’ Bold take, Mirgon.

The birthday roast continues. For instance: David Magdy pretty much opened the whisper of the edit with the words ‘Frick you,’ tagging ‘sweet edit’ for the edit in question: ‘such sweet edit 🥹🥹🥹🥹……OH uh, happy birthday Robert!!!’. Jon Owens had to go with some Welsh Penblwydd hapus Rob. UTST (that’s Happy birthday Rob. Up the Shaggin’ Town for non-Wrexham folks).

But of course, the internet being the internet, there were some… less celebratory replies. Gabe called Reynolds’ “cringe” and termed him a “narcissistic bully.” Ouch. And Rob Consigliere also had to bring in the issue of that long legal drama with one ‘linguine son of a bitch,’ which..yeah,that’s a whole other thing.

And for the weirdest reply: BrotherTodd420’s “I’m so glad I still own a LaserDisc player!!!” because…what does that even have to do with anything? Nothing, really, see? That’s classic Twitter.
