Nathan Fielder's The Rehearsal Sparks Emotional Reactions Online

Recently HBO dropped a clip from Nathan Fielder’s absurdly brilliant show The Rehearsal, and the earth has shaken. The top of the caption read Nathan Fielder hopecore ❤️ #TheRehearsal, which drew in emotional to confused to downright obsessive comments.

To start with the reactions, user like_a_moss_89 really laid into this comment with feels: God I love this show. This made me wanna cry. I hope she keeps going and keeps playing and singing. For someone at 15 to have the grace and determination that she had. I felt that way, too. It makes you invested in a person you have never met, and this one really did hit home.

After that came pnankali, who went on a chaotic rant about how the show works: Nathan Fielder with an unlimited HBO budget is as unhinged as it gets. And honestly? Right on. The man is a genius at turning awkwardness into great art, but when those HBO bucks come rolling in, things start to get really wacky.

Then, of course, there are those who really just don’t get it. dmh_2000_ stated plainly, I don’t understand the attraction to this man for entertainment. Cue the defending armies to swoop in. One reply was: He’s not for everyone, and I’m a big fan. One person continued, I highly recommend that you watch the first season of The Rehearsal if you truly want to understand why we enjoy his work. Very fair. You can’t ultimately define Nathan Fielder from short clips; his genius lies in the slow and painful, yet funny, build-up.

In one moment of clarity, nedwins wrote: @nathanfielder I was so sold on the sincerity of your answer … and then I remembered the box outside. You did not let me down. Classic Nathan. Just when you think he is being heartfelt, the rug is pulled out from under you.

memi1y said simply, Ngl I teared up during this part. Same vibe. It has some weird way that you just laugh, cringe, and cry… sometimes all at once.

That was a definitely HBO advertisement for the show (twice), while telling everyone to Stream the latest episode of The Rehearsal on @streamonmax. So subtle.

But really, people are saying it—well, they are invested. Wherever you fall on whether you enjoy Nathan Fielder, awkward genius, or whether he isn’t even worthy of your time, these people are actually talking. It’s the great thing about The Rehearsal—it sometimes just sits with you; for better or worse.

If you haven’t managed to catch it just yet, now would be a good time. Just be prepared for some things you weren’t actually signing up for. Maybe keep a tissue box handy; maybe not. Either way, it’s gonna be a ride.
