Adam Levine Struggles Through Spicy Wings On Hot Ones While Fans Roast Him In Comments

One of the Van Halen’s was recently on the legendary YouTube series Hot Ones: celebrities eat progressively more-spicy chicken wings and get interviewed accordingly. The Marry Me hitmaker had funny reactions to the heat, though the comment section was a playground for merciless ridicule from the fans, very much willing to shower him with in-jokes and random recipe requests.

The clip comprises classic Hot Ones footage: The star was confident in the beginning until he suddenly saw too well the punishing nature of the infamous hot sauces of Hot Ones. “That is hot bro!” he exclaimed, fanning his palm across his mouth. Moments later, after one specific wing course left him looking downcast and resigned, “I’m not gonna finish this.” Now, definitely the suffering-entertainment mix the show promises so well.
The Instagram comment section gave out its own heat, against the heat Levine was experiencing on his lips (literally). Soon the section went crazy; Spanish-speaking users were asking for random recipes: recipes for Mexican ponche (a spiced wine drink), or Chilean seafood dishes. Another user asked for instructions on boiling water, which were then sarcastically answered by several other users, step by step.
It seemed the main theme throughout the comments was the reference to Levine as “Don Mañas,” a name that seemingly springs from some past controversy in Chile. Several users commented, “We’ll forget everything except Don Mañas,” and “Did you think we forgot about you Don Mañas?” without further clarification on this inside joke. It was said so often it became obvious it was a living meme amongst Chilean fans.
Many of the comments made reference to Levine’s past performance in Chile’s Viña del Mar Festival, User: “I hope the spicy food burns as much as it burned us listening to you at Viña.” While others were probably enjoying the spectacle of their usually cool frontman lapidating all the way through the wings: “What miracle is this that you actually liked something?”
The random recipe requests were put on pause briefly so that users could drop some advanced tips on preparing prietas with potatoes, while a couple of them even argued over calzones rotos. These were mostly unrelated to the main topic of discussion. Some of those users seemed to know what they were getting at.
While writhing in spice-induced pain and dispensing witty banter, “Don Mañas’ Hot Ones was the set-up to a volley of inside jokes, random cooking tips, and half-banter with a pinch of light-hearted roasting of the singer in the comment section.” Strange as the actual combination of sincere off-the-wall recipe requests and diluted all-out memes were as unexpected entertaining company to the actual video.

Another landmark episode for Hot Ones, a show heavy on celebrity appearances and watching atoms lose their tempers and hence being interviewed; the adverse reactions to the wings were very much in keeping with the show, though this particular disgust seemed to sprout his flourishing comedy much more than usual. The Hot Ones wing challenge, with running commentary, made for on-purpose entertaining viewing, although arguably torturous to Levine’s taste buds.
