The Splitsville snippet was released almost quite early by Arjona; if this small clip is to be believed, then those two dance around the chaotic chemistry just right. This behind-the-scenes clip shared on Instagram shows the two actresses barely able to keep a straight face uttering words with lewd double meanings. Arjona captioned it cryptically: “Is this wavy? SPLITSVILLE, starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Michael Angelo Covino, in select theaters 8.22. Everywhere 9.5.”

The very energy thrives in this transcribed clip: compliments on bedroom skills are exchanged one second and the next it’s telenovela-level sobbing over insects and sandwiches. This has got to be either really funny or really absurd that will question reality. And judging by the comments, people are ALL in it.

One comment summed it up completely: “the way she’s visibly trying not to laugh i can’t wait for this movie.” Same. It is a contagiously energetic clip where you can simply tell the cast and crew were barely holding it together while filming. Another screamed at all caps: “I CAN’T WAIT for this one. Love you!”, which is an essence shared by everyone.

And as life is, the comments got derailed off to a side-quest. One person claimed to have found humor in comparing Arjona’s delivery to how an English song by her dad, Ricardo Arjona, may sound, and then someone else chimed in with: “she’s got the legs for WW [Wonder Woman].” That’s a bold move, but with Arjona on that full get-a-Wonder-Woman-style career boost, who’s to argue?

Then, come the messy drama- it wouldn’t be Instagram without it. Someone dropped the stir-the-pot comment: “Is this how your husband caught you with Jason Momoa?” Of course, that triggered a mini-discussion in the comments around timelines and relationships. Sigh. Can’t we just enjoy a little bit of absurdity where two people scream about sandwiches and scratch each other’s backs?

Directed and co-starring Michael Angelo Covino, this looks to lean heavily into the awkwardness of cringe-turned-gold comedy. Neon, the distributor of Parasite and Triangle of Sadness, holds on to this, so the bar is set high. And if we are to judge by this clip, Splitsville could very well be that weird and unapologetically chaotic romp that we never knew we needed.

Really? Just imagine if we did get to see more movies about people bearing witness to each other while dramatically announcing they’re meeting a sandwich. Just putting that out there.
