Bodycam Footage Shows Rep LaMonica McIver Elbowing DHS Agent In Heated Confrontation

Bodycam videos recently released to the public by Fox News ostensibly show an elbowing by Democrat LaMonica McIver on an agent from the Department of Homeland Security during a heated incident yesterday. This video, much to the dismay of online users, shows McIver in red charges at the agents with aggression indeed before she allegedly delivers the elbow.

Being the New Jerseyian for the 20th district, she claims she was the one attacked: “The way we were treated at Delaney Hall is almost unbelievable. ICE shoved me…They disrespected us and tried to stop us from conducting the oversight we’re elected to do.” Her statement shall seem to be discounted by the video, which shows her actually yelling at the officers before making four W’s: Wrongful touching.

The social media kept on going with comments from expressions of outrage to some sarcastic replies. Uncensored User @MichaelAngel1A could not help and said, “Arrest that ugly chubby gal!!” while @HeFlyBoy posted, “Yucky. Gross little piggy.” The insults just kept flowing, and meanwhile, some commenters began talking about the legal issues involved.

@WriterInVegas was spot on when he said, “If they were anyone else they’d be behind bars already.” So many others chimed in that McIver was afforded special treatment because of her political status. On the other hand, @berniewheels stirred the pot with an almost provocative statement: “Always black. Always violence. Always the victim. Always racism,” which only led to more arguments in the replies.

A literal killjoy on McIver’s victim story, @DavidPr41133186 had “actually” looked, “studied” and “analyzed” the bodycam footage, saying “The ICE agent wasn’t even looking at her. It looks to me like he was trying to keep a boundary around her and she hit him from behind.” In turn, others started questioning her motives; @Hdx406 saying, “You are not expected, required or allowed to show up on site and demand to be let in. That is NOT your job.”

The divide soon became glaringly clear: On the right, the accounts denounced McIver’s conduct, while some of the left-sided people began speaking in her defense. Meanwhile, @GichuhoMungai tried to change the subject: “So none should protest? Trump’s Gestapo ICE deported Texas mom and her 2 U.S. citizen children, under false pretenses!”

@realLisaDaly saw a bit of a grand conspiracy and warned, “This is a case of the democrats, republicans and big social media accounts getting big dollars to start a civil war…Tune out the news and block ALL big social media accounts. Don’t let THEM manipulate YOU.”

Circulation of the video only made more hot, and in tandem, the demand for accountability grew louder. Being tagged was the police force through @MAGALODON4547, begging, “We want to see Rep. LaMonica McIver arrested.” Whatever comes next legally is still to be seen, but at least opinionated public already rendered its own unfavorable verdict against the congresswoman.

The incident opens up a whole realm of issues as to how far political oversight extends and what kind of behavior should be expected of its investigators. On one side, there are claims that McIver was performing her duties; however, a great many would argue that proper channels of such oversight do exist and do not include grappling law enforcement officers. Political factions are getting more tense, and incidents like this act like adding gasoline to a seething fire.

What one can safely say is that this incident shall keep getting air time, along with possible investigations, political fallout, and social media thunder. Maybe Rep McIver would eventually regret how she handled this whole matter. For now, though, the bodycam footage is speaking, and it’s telling a very different story from the one she is trying to sell.
