One skeptical viewer insinuated camera-trickery during the clip and sarcastically said, “Hollywood actors, oh, their acting skills are so convincing.” Quite the opposite are the reactions, very much akin to Hemsworth’s blank look of sincere bewilderment: many comments suggest Blaine might still be argued to be the greatest magician alive today. To him who continues to conjure truly impossible moments stands out from the crowd in this jaded, CGI-flooded world.

So that one clip was just the tip of the iceberg-the entire special is justly packed with death-defying, logic-defying illusions that Blaine is famous for. For Hemsworth, a man who for years has quite plausibly pretended to wield magic as Thor, looking at real magic for real was far more astounding than anything in the Marvel world. Somebody has said it all: “That was real magic.” In an age where you can spot an effect from a mile away, the feeling of awe might be the greatest magic ever conjured by Blaine.
