David Spade Asks The Real Question About Dinner Checks

David Spade has forever instigated a frenzy with his unreasonable rambles on Twitter. Quite frankly, such randomness is all we need in this life. The comedian posted, ‘What do you say when the check comes?’, tagging podcast ‘Superfly’ and calling mention to Dana Carvey, who is also a co-host. There was no blockbuster revelation, no major promotion–just a simple little question, one which resonated. And were the replies? Pure gold.

First on the list is Todd Ryan, casually adding, ‘Yeah, you killed it with a MW reference. You’re back!’ So, what MW reference? Did we miss something? Fair enough; Spade is well-known for a lot of back-in-my-day-jokes. Then there’s Later Slater (awesome name) who went with ‘Hilarious! Ha!Ha!Ha!’ which leaves very little beyond, in terms of ‘laughing way too hard at your own joke. Love it!

Lego King served up with the killer: ‘Best Montgomery Ward reference of 2025. Hands Down.’ Alright, k, so we can start to piece this together: Spade must have laid down the old jokes about retail on the podcast. Montgomery Ward? That’s a deep cut. Meanwhile, Don Jonescu pulled the power move: ‘Let Spudley pick it up.’ Context? Nah; just vibes. Who’s Spudley? No clue, but yes!

Then, Fuggoffatron (the greatest handle ever) says, ‘Aww, it’s cute that you think I could afford to eat out.’ Ouch. Relatable. The economy’s dire these days, for real. Sarah Grace Sumner, however, knew the right inside scoop: ‘Layaway on the crab cake? & Who ordered the couch? Have to be my fave lines from this episode!’ Okay, so apparently, Spade and Carvey were riffing over really ridiculous dinner check scenarios. Classic.

From there, DrDes1970 took it another way: “Depends if Adam Sandler is there?”Honestly, at that point, maybe Sandlers is either paying or enough food he’d be accruing a bill that could bankrupt a small country. Then it’s a “I tell my parents just add to my tab. lol xoxo” from Sonja Moisio. Same, Sonja. Same.

That would put this tweeting of Spades into some unofficial-who-was-him-just a thought crowd-which leads to road bickering. And that’s just how he is. Attacking two kinds of responses, like one for jokes about extinct department stores or make-believe ones that are about Spudley. There’s probably miles’ worth of more fodder in said episode, so for anyone down for some unhinge dinner check debates, go listen.

Well, needless to say, David Spade is always the king of humor that is subtle but hits hard. And the internet is down. Who’s going to walk out?
