Curtis gave us some totally unexpected nostalgia by posting a throwback clip from the 2003 classic Freaky Friday. Here, she—well, technically Lindsay Lohan’s body—rendered a truly horrible and gloriously chaotic version of Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time. The caption reads: “Somebody call Chad Michael Murray… Julia Butter’s is coming for his crown.” Those who may not recall will remember that Murray starred in A Cinderella Story in 2004, wherein he had a ridiculous karaoke moment of his own. And honestly? Curtis may well be right.

The clip shows Curtis as Anna Coleman trapped in her daughter’s body in a performance committed to the lyrics: high-pitched squeals and hair flips. The caption tags Disney Studios, so, fingers crossed, more Freaky Friday magic will come our way. Or maybe Curtis felt like reminding us that she has been doing comedy for decades. The internet erupted, one way or the other.

One user claimed that they scrambled their DVD by watching that scene over and over as a kid, while another commented, “I was watching on Disney+ yesterday and rewound this scene 1000 times.” That’s real dedication. And let’s face it, who hasn’t ever played this interpretation? That kind of high-pitched, “still believe” sort of accidental comedy stays with a person forever.

But really, the next question is—does Chad Michael Murray have an answer for this? That diner performance was pretty much iconic, but Curtis just threw down the gauntlet. And with fans still quoting both scenes nearly 20 years later, it’s clear that these moments have firmly entered into the annals of pop culture.

The retro vibes drove the internet in a frenzy with one user stating, “I’m breaking down I can’t do it anymore,” while another commented, “PAUSE she really tackled herrrrr.” Chaotic energy is too much nostalgia for anybody, and honestly, we love it.

Whether this all is a clue hinting at a Freaky Friday sequel, just a random nostalgia blast, or all classic Jamie Lee Curtis, I’ll tell you one thing: Julia Butter’s (the fictitious stage name of Curtis’ character in the film) deserves a bouquet of flowers. And Chad Michael Murray should begin rehearsing his cover of I’ll Be as a matter of some urgency, if he had any sense.

The scenes are on an eternal loop for us. And for some, they never get old. Lindsay Lohan is surely enjoying all the attention as well.
