Jimmy Carr Shares Nostalgic Throwback From 2001 Festival Show

Jimmy Carr dropped a heavy nostalgia bomb with the “go-back” post of an ancient photo from his 2001 festival show, ‘Rubbernecker,’ originally posted by Steve Merchant. This image had Carr and his crew donning funky-fresh black-and-white detainee garb, leaning casually over the balcony railing, either about to drop the hottest album of 2001 or about to judge the classiest talent-show ever. Very early 2000 vibes, with that classic Carr grin.

The comedian left the caption pretty much short and sweet, ‘Steve Merchant posted this throwback photo from our 2001 festival show “Rubbernecker” – good luck in Edinburgh everyone.’ But the internet did share some thoughts.

One started it off well, referencing Merchant’s famous ‘zebra crossing’ gag from ‘The Office’: ‘Should’ve crossed a zebra crossing together.’ Those comments just got crazier from there, with one response being, ‘definitely 😂,’ and another saying doubtfully, ‘maybe.🤔.’ Classic.

Then came the inevitable pleas for a full Carr-Merchant-Ricky Gervais team-up: ‘I want a collab show with Ricky and Jimmy on the same stage. That’d be fucking awesome,’ said another comment. The replies were scattered wild in ideas about them hosting the Golden Globes or pure chaos. Honestly? Count us in for that mess.

Some, though, were not speaking of comedy gold just yet, taking aim at Carr’s visage. ‘He looks like JD Vance🤣,’ one wrote, while another said, ‘Jimmy looks like in (tax)heaven.’ Ouch. And then there was the underground one: ‘I didn’t realise Leigh Francis did a ‘Jimmy Carr’ Bo Selecta mask.’ Brutal. Spot on. We are still laughing.

The dumb comparisons never slowed for a second: One guy thought they looked like a ‘terrible Beatles tribute band,’ and another insisted they looked like tennis legends ‘Pat Cash, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Boris Becker on the Wimbledon balcony.’ For that, an Olympic medal should be presented for mental gymnastics.

If you think a Carr post without some crazy comment is a possibility, then that is exactly how it ended. This time, that came with a twisted political snark: ‘You mean Hamasburgh? All the Jews have been eradicated from the festival.’ Yikes. Moving on.

The remaining replies confused nostalgia (‘Is this show available anywhere?’) with playful roasts (‘Rubber face would be more appropriate!’), but all in all, it was an affectionate old-school throwback reminding everyone why Carr and Merchant are legends in comedy.

Whether you’re here for the jokes, the roasts, or just to experience madness brought from randomness itself, all of this proves one thing for sure: Jimmy Carr keeps the internet entertained in every possible way, even if it’s through an ancient photo. And would we want it any other way? All in all, no.

Cheers to ‘Rubbernecker,’ cheers to Edinburgh, and cheers to the chaotic beauty that is Jimmy Carr’s comment section.
