The internet literally exploded after XXL magazine tested Lil Wayne’s new commercial bag for Tha Carter VI, and well… people wanna share their THOUGHTS. The commercial has immediately been set up side by side with the legendary Jay Z Samsung commercial from a few years ago, setting off arguments on originality, AI usage, and whether Wayne can still spit magic.

One person could not help but write: “Jay Z did it better. Much like this commercial, I think Wayne’s album will lack originality. I hope he proves me wrong.” Ouch. Many agreed with him. Another bluntly stated, “So unoriginal..Jay Z did that 10 years ago.” The side-by-side comparison bruised egos. Some were happy to brand Wayne’s interpretation as “lazy” and “goofy,” especially the version of Baby Wayne with tattoos done in AI.

Others, however, supported the commercial. One fan went on to defend Wayne, positing that it might be a tribute, rather than an outright ripoff: “I also feel like he’s showing his respect to Jay in the new commercial. They both are getting old and doing other business ventures, but they love music so much.” Another one mentioned “creative inspiration” because both are hip-hop legends in their own right.

Then emerged the A.I. argument. Some users purportedly asserted the commercial saw a major involvement of the artificial intelligence, with the blur effects just covering a few goofs. “They had a field day with AI on this one,” one joked. The other ones, meanwhile, remained unmoved: “This AI bs with Wayne as a baby with tats is just goofy,” uttered one critic.

Louder than anything else: The main question on everyone’s lips—Is Tha Carter VI going to live up to the hype? Mixed responses. Some fans saying, “Wayne please don’t disappoint us 😭🙏,” while the skeptics, “Something tells me this album will be mid at best. Wayne is not the same rapper during the early 2000s.”

Then there was the hardcore crowd who declined to poop on it even with an answer: “He will always be top 10,” affirming one. Another chipped in, “Haters wanna hate. Lovers wanna love.” Classic.

Even the rollout got some attention: “These guys have the worst rollout ever. Where are the radio & magazine interviews that should have happened weeks ago to build up the hype?” asked another. Fair.

Be it homage or ripoff, Lil Wayne sure knows how to get people talking. Now we wait to see if the music will speak for itself or if the critics were correct all along.

And can we keep it real: If Wayne puts out a classic, no one will care about the commercial. But if it flops… Oh boy, the mess is just gonna get much worse.
