Luke Cook Shares Hilarious Confusion Over Don Cheadle Joke

Instagram/@thelukecook
Best known for sympathetic comedy, Cook postulated maladies for his wife and mother-in-law, who reacted with infinitely hilarious confusion. The video, a pun relating to actor Don Cheadle’s name, drew much confusion and retaliatory laughter from viewers. Cook then wrote about the nurturing chaos: “My goodness. Don Cheadle has Reportedly #dumbanddumber #comedy.” Then the wife is seen trying to get a grasp of what “having reportedly Don Cheadle” could mean, and then the mother-in-law just walks in with a leaf blower-well, why not?

The punchline: “Don Cheadle has reportedly” is nothing more than the kind of tabloid headline that wakes you up at three o’clock in the morning. This kind of humor thrives on absurdity, and Cook’s delivery is only elevated by the genuine confusion of his family. From the leaf blower to the exaggerated debate between his wife and mother-in-law, the randomness is the video—unscripted chaos at its best. People love it.
Comments flooded in with one user saying, “The content we all need today.” While yet another fan rushed in to compliment the mother-in-law’s confusion: “My favorite part is your mom-in-law bringing the giant leaf blower in the house.” And that leaf blower was literally an exclamation point that garnered over a thousand likes! It just proves that sometimes the best comedy is also the best when it just doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Of course, some were completely lost. “I don’t get it, and I’m hoping that’s the gag,” admitted one commenter who was confused. Then came a reply, “The gag is pretty much just his name… all he did was exist lol.” That’s the beauty of Cook-there doesn’t have to be a punchline because the confusion is the punchline. Don C-head-lay himself would probably be cracking up at the absurdity.
Others responded, one going off with, “How many times has Don Cheadle’d?” and another deadpanned, “Truly shocking news. I hope Don Cheadle.” The absurdity became exponentially bigger, which is the point of such jokes that really don’t ever lead anywhere. Others gave their own story of encountering Don Cheadle via an airport sighting and a hilarious incorrect recollection of the actor’s name until a sign confirmed his identity.
Of course, not every comment was light: One user made some awkward comments about Cook’s wife, with numerous others calling him “gross” and “inappropriate.” Most of the comments, however, stuck with the theme and embraced the absurdity that birthed the post. It’s an event where whether they were laughing at the joke or how much it didn’t make sense, it was so stimulating for the masses that were yearning for a silly laugh.

At the end of the day, Cook’s post reminds you that sometimes comedy doesn’t have to be smart. The best jokes are the ones you either have to scratch your head about, grasp your forehead, call a friend, or argue with your mom about holding a leaf blower. Judging by the reactions, that’s exactly what the net needed.
