Matt Pinfield on Health After Stroke: ‘Slowly but Surely Recovering’

“Fighting my way back!!” the radio host and former MTV VJ said via social media while sharing news about hosting Green Day’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony
Matt Pinfield gave a health update over the weekend while announcing news he’ll be making an upcoming welcome appearance after suffering a stroke earlier this year followed by a months-long coma.
“Slowly but surely recovering..lots of physical therapy..Fighting my way back!! One day at a time,” the radio host and former MTV VJ wrote on Friday via a caption on Instagram. The post included the announcement that he will serve as the host of Green Day’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which takes place on May 1 at 11:30 a.m. PT.
The former 120 Minutes host, 63, suffered a stroke on Jan. 6. In March, he told The Hollywood Reporter that in late February he had been released from the ICU. “Guys, I’m alive,” he said. “I’m recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months. Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.”
He added that his daughter Jessica saved his life after she served temporary guardianship over his medical and financial decisions. “She protected me,” Pinfield told THR.
Following his stroke on Jan. 6, Jessica sought a temporary conservatorship after she and her sister Maya expressed concerns over Pinfield’s girlfriend, whom they alleged wanted control of his assets and home.
During Green Day’s ceremony next week, Serena Williams and Ryan Reynolds will also appear and serve as guest speakers alongside Pinfield. It will be livestreamed via the Walk of Fame’s website.
