The Dallas Cowboys are down bad — and Hall of Famer Michael Irvin says Taylor Swift is partially to blame.

Irvin, 58, who played for the Cowboys from 1988 to 1999, said Dallas is in danger of losing its moniker of “America’s Team” to the Kansas City Chiefs, thanks in part to Taylor Swift and her celebrity pals.

“We’re going to talk about Caitlin Clark and Taylor Swift at the Kansas City Chiefs game,” Irvin said Wednesday, January 22, on the “Is What It Is” podcast, referencing Swift, 35, and the WNBA star, 23, sitting side-by-side at the Chiefs playoff game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, January 18. “Those are two good old American girls. They’re trying to make those Chiefs to all of them. They’re trying to steal America’s title.”

Irvin was also lamenting the fact that the Cowboys haven’t appeared in a conference championship game since 1995 — when Irvin was still on the team — which is the longest drought in the NFL.

Swift, of course, has been dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since 2023 and has been a regular presence at home games at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.

Clark’s appearance at the playoff game came about after the Indiana Fever superstar attended two of Swift’s Eras Tour dates at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium in November 2024.

“People are just going crazy that I’m there,” Clark told Time magazine in a story published in December 2024. “I thought people would be so in their own world, ready to see Taylor. And it was just completely the opposite.”

After the concerts, Clark said she received a personal note from Swift.

“She said ‘Trav and I’ were excited to get to a Fever game now that the tour was winding down and invited Clark to attend a Chiefs game with her,” the story noted.

During a January 2 appearance on Travis and his brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Clark cleared up any notion that she was a “bandwagon” Chiefs fan.

Taylor Swift’s attendance at NFL games has helped bring in female fans — but the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders did it first. “You know, they say Taylor Swift has had an effect, an economic effect and everything else,” Cowboy Cheerleaders director, Kelli Finglass, exclusively told Us Weekly, referring to Swift’s 2023 appearances at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s […]

“My dad was a big Chiefs fan growing up,” the Des Moines, Iowa native said. “People think I’m a bandwagon Chiefs fan, and I’m like, I was [a fan] before Patrick [Mahomes] and Travis were on the team. We’ve been big fans, and all the success you guys have had has made it a lot of fun.”

When asked to name her favorite player, Clark didn’t have to think hard.

“I mean, obviously Travis is,” Clark said, earning the cheers of the brothers. “I’m a big Patrick Mahomes fan too. The both of you are pretty great.”

The Chiefs return to action on Sunday, January 26, in the AFC Championship against the Buffalo Bills, with the winner advancing to Super Bowl LIX against the winner of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.
