An absurdity like that imposes some kind of standing landscape on Pascal’s face, being held there in an “absolutely bizarre” choreography by four hands of men and women.

The video has since gone viral, with Pascal standing frozen as hands would glide over his features almost like a living sculpture. The imagery is surreal, and the reactions on the Internet have poured by the scores. Some called it art; others were just totally creeped out.

“Most overrated actor in Hollywood,” one user said. “Leftist propaganda just getting more bizarre,” chimed another. “He’s a good actor but he’s so cringe and insufferable as a person,” offered the third. Ouch.

More kudos for Pascal came from one of the commenters: “Pedro is unquestionably a great actor. Definitely a weirdo though.” So there is respect for his acting craft despite all the raised eyebrows.

The abstractness of the video spawned so many jokes. “Since it appears there’s only one hand from each person, a thinkin’ fellow might wonder where the other hand from each is,” said one. Another went: “OK PERVERT! What do you want, a medal?”

This was followed by a lengthy, somewhat poetic interpretation coming from a parody account acting ironically as that of Apostle Paul, calling the video a denunciation of “generation adrift,” urging one to “reject the lure of confusion.” Profound commentaries for a random handful of hands touching a guy’s face.

Pascal, one of Hollywood’s most liked stars in the book, has remained tight on the matter. The craziest thing, therefore, is he might be leaning into the weird on purpose, given his past love for oddball humor. (Remember his SNL hosting gig?)

In the end, performance art or metaphor or weirdest ad ever, and one thing is for sure: it is not going to stop being talked about anytime soon. And maybe that was always the grand idea.

As for Pascal? He will continue doing what he loves: weird videos and all. After all, one thing Hollywood really loves is a little strange.
