Richard Mofe-Damijo Sparks Debate With Clean Shave Look

This madness started on social media with Nigerian actor and screen legend Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, concerning a fairly basic question: beard or no beard? In this rare precious glory of clean-shaven RMD, the actor presented the followers with the dilemma on his caption: ‘Every now and then, I like to go for a very clean shave. So are we team #Beards or #TeamNoBeards? Let’s settle this in the comments….’ And settle it, they did! The reactions were a frenzy of love and nostalgia for his iconic beard.

Before we proceed, for the sake of an unspoken understanding, RMD sans beard is just horrible, much like peanut butter without jelly. Unrecognizable. @mlkadesanya1 was hilarious with: “Daddy, you just removed the ‘RM’ in the ‘RMD’. We want our RMD back sir.” Then the comments went upsidedown with some folks joking that even facial recognition software wouldn’t work anymore. Yikes, eh? Another user, @esth_erbahati simply pleaded: “Please no try am again sir.” Between all the laughs and a plethora of agreeing comments, there was also a lone voice saying: “In Jesus name Amen.” The Feast of Struggle is real.

Those were the pants-wetteros for the clean-shaven extension. @30bgjohn felt diplomatically enough to say, “With beards or without beards you look handsome.” On the opposite side of the argument, @female.___king held forth, “Beards makes the look more stunning.” @micky_du1, with all seriousness, offered: “Some parts of the human anatomy have no other value but to make a man beautiful….. that’s a beard.” Deep. Very Deep.

Obviously, a post about RMD had to stir up nostalgia. @akinslarry reminded them of the good days of Checkmate by shouting out to RMD’s iconic character: Segun Kadiri. @gracefullola, meanwhile, reminded them, “We love you for you clean shave or not, your good heart is beauty in its own.”

Then there were some of the wild comments. @giddygolfer said: “With that clean shave, RMD will need to go for ID Card to pop for London.” Then we have @tovarich_emmyblaq going all out with a trenchant application of some Bible majesty on timing and beauty. Wildly apropos, not really beard-related, but inspiration comes from all directions.

Meanwhile, the debate continued on one side and the other: @igbest.ng: “I am team no beards… ……🤔Or team both… Wo I don’t know O, both looks are fire tho.” So much indecision-I relate to that. Then someone asked for his own: “@_hrhdamoche_: Baba keep your beards grey always sir.” Much respect.

Bearded or not, RMD remains timeless; the moment he shaves his eyebrows, the swooning will begin. But to be honest, the beard means quite a lot. RMD, if you’re reading this, please just a little? For the culture.
