Get ready because Rosie O’Donnell will have her own spotlight to herself in her one-woman show ”Common Knowledge” during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, and some people just don’t want to see her shine. The comedian and actress posted a rehearsal photo on Instagram showing her in her lime green sweater, half-heartedly doing some cute little piece with a microphone. Judging by the late-absorbed audience and the silhouette of the intimate venue, it portrays an idea of a cozy and interactive arrangement-a good thing for her brand of stand-up. While plenty of supporters were rushing below to share their full support, a few dragged recent controversies into the matter.

The post finally turned into a battleground, with praise and criticism tussling for superiority, even before the Green show was able to draw its first breath in the Gilded Balloon between the 1st and the 10th of August. Fans in delight flooded with encouraging words, one saying, ‘Fan freaking fantastic. Good luck!’ Another complimented her ‘command of the audience’ that her green sweater seemed to emanate, while one just remarked, ‘Happy looks beautiful on you,’ an expression that so many would have wished to give O’Donnell, considering her public persona.

Suddenly, the limelight angled shift, and Negroes aired their grievances. One party was obsessed with castigating O’Donnell for describing Texas flood sentiments as all too greatly politicized or insensitive. ‘To go political while many people have died and more still missing is a very disturbing inhumane path to go down!’ Another came along with a set of expletives: ‘Rosie has no fucking clue what she is talking about regarding the flooding in Texas.’ Aguing turned into criticism, with remarks of: ‘”Nobody’s going to it😂😂😂 you’re not funny!”‘

Such contrast brought to realization O’Donnell’s almost undefinable public image. For every hater that takes every opportunity to trample on her in every single statement (‘So excited for you, Rosie!!’) is someone cheering her on. Her supporters also got involved in fiercely defending her with one replying to an offender: ‘That’s so unnecessary and puts you in the realms of officially nasty people.’

There was also an injection of comedy for several moments amid the turmoil. One individual quipped: ‘How did Flintstones not make the credit list??? lol,’ whilst another, most likely another performer, exuberantly shared that their Cavalcade of Weird show will be at the same venue. ‘See you there!!’ came as much welcomed relief.

Rosie O’Donnell’s track record is so peppered with backlash that she wouldn’t even care anymore. The post itself shouts O’Donnell’s excitement for the gig, not even starting to speak of the rehearsal photo capturing O’Donnell in full swing-booked to the brim with energy-high and bright with energy that perhaps paid for her across the stage. Will the crowds in Edinburgh stand beside her or in the nay column remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: she holds a standing that is sure to bring discord-gripping her from side to side.

Known for the mix of the various performances, Edinburgh Festival Fringe would certainly be conducive to O’Donnell’s humor and candor. Love her or hate her, she isn’t going to the back soon. And if comments are to be an indicator, neither is the discussion she generates.
