Russell Brand’s Unbuttoned Shirt Logic Sparks Wild Reactions

Russell Brand, the forever-controversial comedian and actor, just tweeted something that has everyone either laughing or cringing-or boiling with rage. He theorized that leaving shirts unbuttoned just seemed, you know, more logical: ‘When you put them on, they’re unbuttoned; why put in the effort to button them up? Seems like a waste of time to me.’ Classic Brand, really: part philosopher, part lazy-defiance. But boy did the internet have thoughts.

Things started off mild, with fans piled on. Pablo from Fuerteventura gave him a thirsty titbit: ‘You’re fucking cute, hot and attractive, and that’s what the feckers hate.’ Jennifer Jacobson kept it simple: ‘It’s your look and vibe, Russell…keep doing you!’ Candystriper was more freeform: ‘Dress however you like.’
Though of course there were doubters. Brooke Weiss, for all her pragmatism, had to ask: ‘What about zippers? Are those a waste of time too? Do you zip your fly?’ Layla pressed even further: ‘Well then, why wear it?’ Oof.
Things just got spicy. Polly Dolan wasn’t pulling punches: ‘How interesting! When will you return to the UK to answer to your charges for rape, indecent assault, oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault?’ Yeah, Brand’s ongoing legal troubles were not going to be kept off the table. Gary H. Blankenship went a step darker: ‘Makes rapage quicker too.’ NOT GOOD, BOB.
Not everyone took this sitting down. Reptolord summed it quite accurately: ‘I am a lazy clown.’ Guy Derieu made a strange comment: ‘Not for us watchers who think you have some sort of weird ‘show the carpet’ fetish… The problem is you are getting older, so show some respect for your audience. It’s like showing off a hairy beaver at 90 by Katy Perry.’ What.
And conspiracy theories followed. Sceptical_woman called him a ‘preening exhibitionist,’ and Logan32898264 said: ‘You want to look sexy. Jesus Christ man we’re not stupid we know you’re a hypocrite even if your wife doesn’t.’
The wildest of them would stick to Zubenelgenubi. He compared Brand to Paolo Nutini and claimed that unbuttoned shirts are mere peacocking: ‘U want ppl2look&admire u,u peacocks!&wots wrong with that?!Ur young&good-looking hairy monkeys/monkees!’
So, what would you say about it? Either Brand’s shirt philosophy stands as a clever anti-fashion return or it is just a lazy excuse for drawing attention. Either way, it is certainly an interesting conversation starter. And honestly, that is probably the point.

But really, most of us will remain stuck on that image of Perry-Katy at 90. Thanks a lot for putting that into our minds, Guy Derieu.
