Russell Crowe Shares Stunning Easter Egg That Sparks Debate

In a peculiar manner, Russell Crowe continues the tradition of posting an Easter picture on social media every year that sparks far more conversations than any holiday greeting would ever be capable of. The star of Gladiator tweeted merely a “Happy Easter” along with a photo of a chocolate egg that seems like such an object d’art that it should really be locked up in a museum. And boy, did the replies go wild with theories, compliments, and, of course, a random political dig that arose out of nowhere.

The egg, decked out with gold detailing and intricate designs, really looks like something from Fabergé’s workshop—so much so that one doubts it could ever be edible art. Isabelle Guegen was right on the money referring to it as “sublime, great art from the master chocolatier”; she continued on to say “just don’t break it but taste it with the eyes.” Really, who would want to eat anything that looked so gorgeous??
Karina Haase asked almost straightforwardly whether it was a Fabergé egg, which frankly, that was an acceptable question. It sure looks very expensive. John Scully, however, just went completely off the wall with, “Whose butt did that come from?” Uh…no, buddy. Easter eggs don’t work like that. An unsolicited comment about Australian politics regarding some guy named AlboMP was of course drowned out by all the egg mayhem, and it’s probably for the best.
Most were nice people and said something generic about the holiday. Teresa Butler made it religious, saying: ‘Happy Resurrection Day…May the Lord bless you real good!’ Dawn Fardell got straight to the point: ‘Happy Easter. That is my kind of chocolate.’ Right there with you, Dawn.
The real MVP would be Lily, who mentioned casually in the spirit of celebration, “Easter and 2 family bdays…chocolate bunny’s, choc eggs, & deviled eggs…Devoured by all.” Now THAT’S how to holiday! No fancy museum pieces, just some good ol’ sugar comas and family time.
Barb somehow turned her Easter greeting into a whole history lesson about New Zealand prime ministers and The Seekers band members? Wait, what were we talking about again…oh yeah, right, Russell’s bougie egg.
Amazing what one picture can do to stir up all sorts of firestorms of reactions, from art critique to blessings of a religious nature, and whatever that comment about the butt was. Crowe didn’t even bother to add a real caption, letting that egg speak for itself, and speak it did.
Moral of the story: never underestimate how far a seasonal post stamped by a celebrity goes in revealing how random Internet strangers think about things. Some see edible art, some see religious symbolism, some see…poultry anatomy jokes. The Internet remains undefeated in its ability to go off topic at lightning speed.
