Trisha Yearwood Gets Emotional After Receiving Honorary Doctorate

Country Music Pioneer Trisha Yearwood was basking in joy on the occasion of an honorary doctorate degree being conferred upon her by Belmont University last weekend. The singer took to Twitter to express her gratitude about how the entire experience was “surreal,” which mediated into reflections on her years in the business.

Yearwood really gave Belmont the credit in the matter of her success. Sitting there side by side with Hubert himself, his close friend, and fellow songwriter Hilary Lindsey, who had also received an honorary doctorate, Yearwood shared the glory.

The emotional outburst amounted to so many congratulations that she began to be addressed as Dr. Yearwood instantly. A wisecracker asked, “What’s up Doc?” Another said, “Dr. TY? I’m here for it!” The playful titles didn’t stop there as another one said, “Looks like Garth Brooks is going to have to level-up from ‘Miss Yearwood’ to ‘Dr. Yearwood’ now.”

Yet another touching comment followed from a fan by the name Tiffany Odonnell: “Thank you for taking us along on this amazing journey with you and for continuing to inspire me every day.” Another fan, Shannon Markos, stated, “No one is more deserving of it than you! I’m extremely proud of you, & I know your Sweet Mama/Dad are too!”

That award ceremony has got to be interesting to watch as Yearwood is busily touring with Brooks while running her successful Food Network show “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.” Suddenly, an Australian doll piped up, pleading, “Please come to Australia. We’d welcome you and Garth with open arms.”

Such an award means a lot to Yearwood, having been her friend for such a long time. Yearwood, a Georgia native, studied at that Nashville school back in the late 1980s before truly setting herself on the path toward a career in music. In a tweet, she even expressed special gratitude to Belmont for getting her not just that first Number One record but also that record deal.

The honorary doctorate marks something of a full circle for Yearwood, who has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide in tandem with slowly establishing a secondary career as a cookbook author and television personality. As one fan put it quite nicely, “It just shows if you put your mind to what you want, you can accomplish anything you want to achieve in life!”

Though she didn’t say what comes next in her dear post, the bantering from her fans-now-including the Belmont community-is going to hilariously cheer the continuation with her. And yes, they’ll be calling her Dr. Yearwood.
