David Spade And Rob Lowe Reunite For Brat Pack Nostalgia

Once on Instagram, David Spade had blown a very anthropological nostalgia bomb with the photo alongside Rob Lowe, another Brat Pack legend. In his caption, he insinuates about a talk concerning Hollywood and very cherished memories of brat packing on his podcast Superfly, co-hosted with Dana Carvey. And let’s just put it out there: the comments went nuts.

Many quickly went into overdrive to jump to conclusions that for sure means a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. User erica.runzel screamed out: “Wait, what?!?! A St Elmo’s Fire sequel?!? I’m so in!” Like…no? That’s not what this is? But hey, thanks, that’s sweet. Somewhere in there, chazzmorris reminded us about some old “chop low, Rob Lowe, Chad Lowe” bit that only true ’80s kids would get.
Also, the amazing comments flowed about The Breakfast Club. That score from brklyn_boriqua would go into their top 5 ever. But thundercats.r.go might just have written the real MVP comment, calling Rob Lowe “the OG Brat Pack hottie”- thus sending everyone on a thread reminiscing about the first time they saw him in The Outsiders. One comment even tossed in “sex tape og,” but quickly followed up with “he’s turned out well 😍 still cute.” Priorities, people.
And then, trouble, when actress_1266 started with listing every David Spade movie she watched recently, including the all-time classic PCU–only to be pointed out, that’s 79 minutes long, so what the heck were they “in the middle” of watching? Never underestimate the internet to pull someone down.
Of course, no celebrity IG post would be complete without random off-topic comments. Everything from begging Spade to join the MCU (avengersfans157 really went all in with the heart emojis) right along to a heart-wrenching note by shomarkhaled mourning losing family in Gaza. Truly, social media is the last great wilderness of human interaction.
The Brat Pack nostalgic tendrils waved even further as jillielaud called for an Outsiders sequel about “60-year-old rabble-rousers,” and darrylsylver_5.0 declared that Rob Lowe’s best movie will always be Bad Influence. Someone even dropped all the lyrics of St. Elmo’s Fire in the comments as if it were karaoke night.
But most chaotic energy came from willytcrotty, who inexplicably took a swipe at Rob Lowe’s driving skills just because he’s from Dayton? And then joe.guido went ahead and straightforwardly called St. Elmo’s Fire “the worst of the 80s movies,” which… bold take. The 80s movie debate raged on, with tom.in.atlanta whinging about “they really don’t make good movies like that anymore.” heavywall9 painted a fantastic verbal picture of why The Breakfast Club touches everybody.

This post at the end reconfirms two things: 1) People REALLY love Rob Lowe, and 2) Instagram comments are where logic goes to die. Whether for the Brat Pack nostalgic, random movie debates, or just to watch David Spade and Rob Lowe bicker banter back and forth, this podcast episode will be worth a listen for sure. Now, excuse me while I go and rewatch The Outsiders for the 50th time.
