J.K. Rowling Slams Scottish Greens Leader Over Puberty Blockers Controversy

Coming in latest on J.K. Rowling somewhat quite recently is her naming of Patrick Harvie, leader of the Scottish Greens, for puberty blockers’ views and basically ignitable everything online. The Harry Potter author blasted off a withering tweet suggesting that Harvie’s sense of self-awareness is probably that of a goldfish. Now, the Internet has just taken this somewhere.

Harvie had, of course, previously criticized politicians for telling doctors what drugs to prescribe, and in the next breath was advocating puberty blockers.

“Whether skills are useful or not-good medical reasons for it,” Harvie was saying. To which Rowling could simply not believe it. “I’ve seen more self-aware goldfish”, she put it, stirring supporters and critics alike into a frenzy.

The backlash was immediate. Supporters of Rowling praised her for what they felt was a strong stand against political hypocrisy. “He proudly holds an Ian Dunn award,” said another, referring to Harvie’s previous controversial affiliations. Another added: “Frankly terrifying that someone with so little self-awareness is elected.”

Not every opinion sided with Rowling. Critics began to claim that puberty blockers served a legitimate medical purpose besides those involved in gender transition. One said to the opposing side, “You guys do know that some kids need puberty blockers for reasons other than being trans, right?”

Another angrily rebutted that “Rowling is just spreading misinformation,” saying, “there is nothing wrong with puberty blockers; that’s just internet misinformation.”

With those accusations came the abuse of children, political agendas, and even reference to Nuremberg trials. “Remember the Nuremberg trials? We can go there again if we like,” went a very angry comment.

Meanwhile, there were other comments dismissing the entire dispute as mere distraction from more urgent matters-a favorite, “Head of the Scottish Greens, a party more interested in children’s sexual education than environmental ones.”

Not for the first time, Rowling has long been critical of gender ideology with a strong focus on medical intervention for minors; this latest entanglement with Harvie adds to an already raging fire. With social media going crazy, this debate is unlikely to die down for some time.

Where do you stand? Are politicians allowed to enter into any medical decision-making for the practice of medicine, or is that just a slippery slope toward dangerous overreach? One thing is for sure: Rowling will never back down. And nor will her critics.
