Nicole Kidman And Sandra Bullock Reunite For Practical Magic Sequel

Nicole Kidman was the bearer of all things wonderful that cinephiles have been awaiting for so long – the rebirth of the Owens sisters in a sequel to Practical Magic. The premiere-winner had put out a behind-the-scenes clip, captioned, “The witches are back ✨ Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic,” just to leave the Internet swarm in an uproar.

Design It might be a short video, but alas, Kidman was speaking in complete Sally Owens chauvinism when she playfully uttered, ‘That’s car game. Stay rolling. Straight away please,’ which perhaps had to do with some logistics involved in the shot but thus each word was measured by the fans looking for clues. This cult classic from 1998, which was Street-wise adapted from Alice Hoffman’s novel, told the story of the magical Owens sisters concerned with love, curses, and small-town gossip. Now, 26 years after, Bullock and Kidman are dusting off the roles they originated, throwing the Internet into a pandemonium of excitement.
One user screamed, ‘THIS FEELS LIKE CHRISTMASSSS STAWPP THIS IS BEST PRESENT IVE GOT,’ while another declared, ‘IT IS SO GOOD TO BE ALIVE AT THE SAME TIME AS NICOLE KIDMAN.’ The excitement was more about the announcement of the sequel though; reflect the hairstyles that Kidman was flaunting-the much-talked-about fire-red hair from the original film: ‘”Nicole need to keep her red hair ❤️,” claimed one commenter. Another reprimanded, “you do know she really ISN’T a redhead, right? She spilled the tea on Graham Norton…”
The nostalgia was hitting hard, as fans called the duo ‘Hollywood royalty’ and admitted to having rewatched the original ‘many times.’ One person confessed, “Never wanted a sequel so much in my life!!!!” to which dozens gave their agreement. International fans joined the chorus with Portugal and Spain- “esperei tanto por isso!” (‘I waited so long for this!’) and “Eu amo vcs q saco” (‘I love you guys, ugh’).
All in all, it is for the fans only, but Bullock, having been somewhat quiet since her 2022 rom-com The Lost City, is definitely stepping back into the limelight, and Kidman, with her bold recent stride of projects (Expats, Big Little Lies) clearly doesn’t see this as an easy way to make a quick buck.
No-one has come out to say what the plot of the new film is; however, judging from the really pitchy slapstick mix of dark humour, the sisters’ bond, and supernatural mayhem of the original, it looks like this one will be the witchy comfort food nobody really knew they needed. And with Kidman getting down Sally road good and proper on set, I’d say a lot of magic has happened.

Until then, if it were me, I’d need to watch the original again a couple of times, beat myself to near madness with the cryptic ‘car game’ chitchat that Kidman started, and then impatiently anticipate further news. Because, if nothing else, the announcement bona fide proved that Practical Magic’s spell never truly came off.
